Liberation Ceremonies

超度法会

(Individual / Family)

With great compassion, dedicate merit and benefit all beings.

A compassionate space for individual or family remembrance and dedication of merit.

A ceremony of remembrance and compassionate wishes

Liberation ceremonies bring Buddhist recitation, offerings and dedication together in remembrance of the departed. In this context, liberation expresses the aspiration that beings may be free from suffering and encounter conditions favourable to awakening.

An individual or family dedication

An individual dedication can give a personal intention a formal place within the ceremony. A family dedication allows relatives to come together around shared remembrance, gratitude and goodwill.

The ceremony may include sutra recitation, Buddha-name chanting or repentance practices, depending on the liturgy. The emphasis is on cultivating goodness and dedicating it with sincerity.

Supporting a meaningful farewell

Coming together can make space for memories that are difficult to put into everyday conversation. Some people find expression in chanting; others prefer quiet reflection. A shared dedication gives these different responses a common focus while allowing each person to remember in their own way.

Discussing your family’s wishes

Let GSLC know whether the dedication is for one person or a family group, and describe any relevant memorial occasion. Confirm the names to be included, the form of ceremony and participation arrangements. Families with different religious backgrounds can ask how relatives may attend respectfully.
