Honouring the roots of a family
Ancestral remembrance recognises the lives and kindness that have made our own lives possible. A memorial tablet gives this gratitude a visible form, preserving a name or family dedication as a focus for respectful remembrance.
Tablets and ritual plaques
An ancestral tablet and a liberation ritual plaque can serve different purposes. A tablet generally identifies those being remembered; a ritual plaque is used within the context of a particular ceremony. Its wording and role follow that ceremony’s practice.
GSLC uses the Chinese term 超度令牌 for the latter offering. Confirm the intended form and use directly so that your family understands what is being arranged.
From remembrance to dedication
Buddhist ancestral remembrance can extend beyond maintaining a memorial object. Chanting, generosity and wholesome conduct become ways to honour those who came before us. Dedicating these actions brings gratitude into present-day life and encourages care across generations.
Preparing the family details
Gather the names or ancestral wording you wish to include and check them with family members. Ask GSLC about inscription conventions, placement, duration and how the tablet or plaque is used in the ceremony. If the family already has a memorial arrangement elsewhere, explain this when discussing your request.
